1968 French Open – Men's Singles
Defending champion Roy Emerson lost to Pancho Gonzales in the quarter finals.
Ken Rosewall won the final 6–3, 6–1, 2–6, 6–2 against Rod Laver. It was Rosewall's second French title, and his fifth grand slam title of an eventual eight. The tournament was the first grand slam tournament of the open era, in which pros were allowed to compete against amateurs (the Australian Championships earlier that year having been an amateur only tournament, was won by Bowrey over a very weak, depleted field). Rosewall and Laver, who had not appeared in a grand slam tournament since 1956 and 1962, respectively, were no longer barred from entering. Missing from the French Open were WCT's "Handsome Eight" and top amateurs Santana, Ashe, Graebner and Okker. It was future champion Nastase's first ever grand slam event.
